Lack of Computer Vision Community Resources

For people working in machine learning, there are several useful mailinglists, newsgroups and good blogs.

Unfortunately, for computer vision, we don’t have a mailinglist, we don’t have a handbook, we don’t even have a newsgroup (comp.ai.vision provides nearly no information).

I hope this could change soon. And I hope some high quality blogs could be built.

Recommend Word 2007

I must say I was not a Word user, since my experience with Word was painful. I mainly use emacs + latex to write academic articles. And I have used TeXmacs to write math draft documents.

Word 2007 is really changing my impression with the MS Office suits. The math editor is really powerful now, and the citation becomes much better. It seems that MS is really beginning to pay attention to the academic people’s needs. Now as an academic article editor, the experience is really enjoyable. I just feel that it borrows a lot of ideas from Latex and TeXmacs. Good to see that MS is really accepting other people’s smart ideas.

The problem is that I haven’t figured out whether there’s a way to export the word file to Latex or vice versa. ( I believe it will come out, when a lot of people adopt Word 2007).

Sending CTRL+ALT+DELETE to Remote Desktop

I found this handy little tip today when I had to send CTRL+ALT+DELETE to a remote desktop session (which always ends up being processed by the local machine and not the remote one).  The keystroke is CTRL+ALT+END.  Handy to know and remember!
